We’re living in a time when our cities are growing and changing at lightning speed. Ecology and new technologies aren’t just buzzwords anymore — they’re shaping how we get around and how we experience the places we live in. These changes are needed, no doubt, but they often clash with our habits and force us to adapt fast. And with that fast pace come new rules — and some restrictions too. Take clean air zones, for example. In many big cities, you can’t just drive into the center anymore. That’s pushing both cities and people to rethink how we move. Across Europe, more and more cities are betting on bike infrastructure. And it makes sense — bikes are green, efficient, and perfect for crowded streets. But there’s one big issue nobody talks about enough: Where do you safely leave your bike in your city? Especially when we’re talking about e-bikes that cost thousands of euros. That’s where Smart Bike Box comes in.
PROBLEMS
Related to the lack of safe parking spaces for private electric bikes in city centers
- High risk of theft and vandalism (In large city centers, the risk of bike theft—especially electric bikes, which often cost several thousand euros—is enormous. Even sturdy locks are often insufficient, and cases of vandalism or battery theft are common.
- No dedicated, safe parking zones (Most city infrastructure does not provide dedicated, monitored, or secured parking spaces for private electric bikes. Available racks are usually exposed and unattended.)
- Limited charging options in public spaces ( Unlike sharing scooters, private electric bikes do not have charging infrastructure. )
- Lack of integration with smart city policy and the development of sustainable transport (Despite promoting ecological transport, the lack of investment in safe bicycle parking means that cities are not exploiting the potential of private micromobility.)
SOLUTION
Our solution takes the stress out of parking your bike in the city. You no longer have to worry if your bike will still be there when you return. SBB is more than just a bike rack. It’s a secure storage space, a charging station for e-bikes, and a place where technology meets art and the city gets to show off its style. We believe our shelters can become part of the city's expression — functional, yes, but also expressive and full of character.
The main idea of the project is to create intelligent solutions related to bicycle infrastructure for modern cities that align with sustainable development and Smart Cities trends. SCON is an innovative approach to the problems of congested cities and cyclist safety, response to rising CO2 emissions and residents' quality of life. SMART BIKE BOX (SBB) is a modern approach to the problem of storing individual users' often expensive bicycles in urban areas. Modern design, ergonomic parking, and safety guaranteed by the latest security system are some of the advantages that distinguish SBB from similar solutions.
